This is a valuable record of the private meetings between Peter Kalms and the Lubavitcher Rebbe that offers a rare glimpse into the details of such meetings. Unfortunately, the particular matters being discussed are not intrinsically interesting in themselves and the constant updates on their various projects soon becomes dull. Kalms had the very good idea of including copies of letters received from the Rebbe at the end of most chapters. This also provides interesting insight into how the Rebbe communicated with his followers and details on his worldview.The book is weakened by the addition of two additional sections. The first is a one-sided reconstruction of the correspondence from the Rebbe to Chief Rabbi Jakobovitz following the Six Day War. It is difficult to judge what Jakobovitz's contribution to the conversation might have been. It appears that the concerns that the Rebbe had about the treaty details between Israel and its Arab neighbors were largely misplaced, though it is difficult to judge as very little context is given for the correspondence.The second additional section is by Herman Branover, a Russian Refusenik and physicist. This is an embarrassing defense of the Rebbe's rejection of modern science.
