I have eagerly awaited this book since I preordered it a few months ago. With no look inside feature I wasn't sure what to expect. I was afraid I was going to get some tired old recipes that people would have eaten in 1920. What I received was a beautifully photographed and well written take on how people eat in Bavarian Biergartens right now.There is a brief but informative essay about Biergarten history and current culture at the start of the book. Throughout the book there are several well thought out, beautifully illustrated and informative pages about such things as Bavarian beer purity, an intro to Bavarian beer and handy indexes of things like kid friendly recipes and vegetarian recipes. There are two pages of handy Bavarian phrases to help you fit in at the biergarten.Luckily the book arrived just before I was going to the grocery store so I was able to try eight recipes over the weekend. All of the recipes came together exactly as anticipated and they were all really, really good. I picked up some really good bread at the bakery and I served it with Obatzda ( Bavarian cheese spread) I also made a pear version of the Obatzda that was amazing. I also made radish flowers with quark dip ( quark is a type of cheese that is becoming more available in America if you haven't seen it yet chances are you will be seeing it soon) and a chickpea spread with capers. I made two mustard recipes a sweet mustard and a hot tarragon mustard both came out great and my best advice when making them is to open all the windows in the kitchen, the vinegar smell was a bit more than I expected but it aired out quickly. I also made the Tyrolean Hash with eggs, it was the prefect recipe to use of the leftovers from a pork roast.The recipes are sorted into three sections: Cold snacks, salads and more, Hot dishes and Bavarian Classics and Sweet Treats.There are what look to be an amazing assortment of dessert recipes I haven't gotten to yet but I will be trying them. The entrees range from sandwiches to roasts and also include soups, great ideas for sausages and dumplings and spaetzle, but not any old dumplings but Spinach dumplings with Gruyere cheese. All of the recipes are traditional in flavor but don't feel like you are eating a history lesson.While I love the book, it may not be right for you. A couple of things may be harder to source at the grocery store, like quark and some really good German sausage. Many of the baking recipes call for packets of vanilla sugar and baking powder, though not mentioned by name what they mean is Dr. Oekter vanilla sugar and baking powder both of which can be ordered right here on Amazon.They are inexpensive enough to keep on hand.The bread recipes include measurements for both fresh or dry active yeast, which is nice if you have access to the fresh yeast.The most important thing to know for most American users of the book is you will need a scale. While measuring spoons are used for small quantities, other ingredients are measured only in imperial or metric measures, not by volume.

I particularly like their salad recipes. Farmers here in the Pacific Northwest grow great cabbage. So far the only way I have cooked Red Cabbage is with bacon and apples in the Fall. This Biergarten cookbook had another wonderful option: raw cabbage slaw with oranges, carrots and toasted sunflower seeds. The salad recipe has a nice dressing in which to marinate the salad for 15 minutes. I had never marinated a salad for even a minute, and the 15 minutes made a big improvement and it is so simple. LOL why did I not think of that. I have been cooking for 60 years. Now I will try the Biergarten potato salads. Klesick Family Farm (2 miles away) posted a photo on my FB page of mother and daughter planting potatoes this week. I just read that the resistant starches in cold potatoes are actually good for people like me with high blood sugar. So potato salads, here I come.

I love, love, love this cookbook! The recipies taste delicious, are authentic Bavarian and are easy to follow. The potato salad recipe with arugula and bacon is amazing and worth the cost of the book just by itself, but there are so many more great recipies. Truly one of the best cookbooks we have ever purchased.

This book is full of interesting recipes, ideas, and advice on the ever growing popularity of the "Biergarten" in this country. I just love some of the explanations on the lifestyle of the biergartens and how to pack the perfect picnic basket. This book brings the Bavarian way of life in the summer time to you in so many ways. Everyone's back yard or deck can be your very own biergaten! I think Paulaner Brewery in Bavaria is responsible for publishing this but they don't seem to take credit for it. I highly recommend this book.

I purchased this as a gift to my significant other who grew up in Germany. After reading the reviews I was pretty confident with my decision in purchasing this book but can find it hard to find "authentic" cookbooks. My boyfriend absolutely loves this book and could not believe how many dishes were inside.The book has beautiful pictures, is nicely laid out and has some delicious options! I would definitely recommend it to any German food enthusiast or someone looking for an authentic German cookbook.

I grew up in Germany; my grandmother was from Munich and made a lot of Bavarian dishes. I've tried a few of these recipes, most of them turned out almost as good as Oma's. I tried making the pretzels, and mine did not turn out. Otherwise, glad I made this purchase so far.

Decent for what its worth. Not very big and some of the recipes are quite simple minded everyday fare. I made the goulash from this book and it turned out fantastic. Just moved and somehow the book got left behind. I may buy it again, just for that goulash recipe.

This is one of the best German Bavarian cookbooks I have encountered. The recipes are delicious - clear instructions and measurements with beautiful photos of the dishes. If you like German cuisine, you will love this book.

Michael Alder has not been a stellar member of polite society-or any manner of society since his broken engagement to Jenny. After a slight indiscretion with Miss Ada Ellis, of which he was too drunk to properly remember, his fate is set. Ada is set for revenge on Lord Vile and manages to peak his curiosity and his interest in her. This is a very well written story of redemption. I was not prepared to like the Hero in this story. His past actions were so “Vile”. By the end of the story, he may now be my favorite character in this series.

How does one get the nickname, Lord Vile? Viscount Michael Alder is trying his best to live up to his nickname without really even trying. One woman wronged seeking revenge is all that it takes to take one's reputation and tear it to shreds.Michael has always played by the rules and enjoyed himself yet behaved in his own quiet manner. Then one woman sets out to destroy him and so be it if the Ton takes her side without even a second thought. Releasing a vile lord on all the unsuspecting Lords and Lady's.He has one supporter who is watching him from afar in hopes that she can wait out this whole vile situation so that she might take him off the market and be the luckiest lady of the season.We have to very different types of personalities that through all the twists and turns must both be able to see the light at the end of this long and sometimes hopeless road.Great read going from one side of the English ton to the dark side and back when deemed necessary.

Twists to rival a helter-skelter.I must admit to finding myself through most of the book in the very surprising situation of feeling sorry for Michael and feeling Ada was to hard on him .I was shocked at myself.By the end of the book I had worked it out and can only say it’s a brilliant story and I can wait to read more .I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review

4 STARS for S.J. Bailey's Book 3 in her Beastly Lord series which is well written and entertaining. Extensive heavy drinking to beyond the point of sobriety and bad judgments, sexual advances, and memories will affect one sometimes for years, into the future. Romantic Historical Regency Novel with a Lady who is interested in stocks, yet can't buy them on her own, and she wants revenge using them! Great portrayal of an alcoholic always needing a drink to do anything: 1 to ride in carriage, 1 to eat, 1 to get off horses, and so on! Just if you do something drink 1, decide on something, drink 1, (not counting the drinks you sip on it drink while planning/or the doing of something) get ready to go, drink 1, go drink 1, get there, drink 1, leave, drink 1, & so on... It might seem tedious but drinking and drinkers are tedious and the more people know this the better. Plus, health problems, far flushed face and gout, eewww. She's come back with a son and a different name and is determined to make Michael suffer for the way he treated her.She wasn’t expecting to fall in love with him but he's kind and she enjoys his company and he loves her son.Loved the story as much as the first 2 stories in this series. They're all a great read.

Ada goes to a ball and runs into him there. Ada is young, bright eyed and naive, and does not know of his reputation. It does not go as she has fantasized all of these past years, as young girls often do.A few years later, Ada, due to her own talents and the support of her loving family, she has a home of her own in London, and a two year old son. She is living as a “widow”. But she still harbors a great anger about that meeting long ago with Lord Vile, and she has an elaborate plan to exact her pound of flesh. But, will it produce that results she has imagined in her head the last three years?This is the third book in this series and I really enjoyed it. The characters are complex and interesting as is the situation each finds themself in within the plot. It is not the usual “trope” and it held an emotional depth that made it all the more appealing. I am looking forward to the next book in this series as well.
