'Click' is a charming, well-crafted kids title that doesn't talk down, or even kneel, to its audiences level but gets all the way in the sandbox. A slice-of-life story, the stakes are low and the problems are emotional, but finds its drama in the very real problems kids face in their lives, rather than resorting to the metaphorical adventures that a lot of storytelling for kids seems to rely on. Author Miller doesn't see any reason to NEED to exaggerate the problems kids face because to kids they are as real and as meaningful as they feel and above all this book's writing excels at this point. Beyond the script, the art is perfectly balanced for the smaller scale of book, with easy-reading pastel colors and clearly defined linework, with notable moments of visual detail baked into the pages that adds a real artistic texture to the book, like a panel purely inserted to show the stars on Olive's wall are glow-in-the-dark decals. I may be a couple of decades (and children) shy of being able to honestly say what a kid would think of this book, but as a fan of the medium regardless of target demographic, 'Click' is a confident, gentle, and worthwhile title that takes kids seriously without feeling overly serious.

I purchased a copy of this book for my cousins (ages 8 & 10) and they both loved it! They tell me they are both anxiously anticipating the next book in the series, “Camp”.As a longtime fan of Kayla Miller's independent comics, it was exciting to see their unique perspective applied to content for young audiences. It was refreshing to read a story about a character like Olive who doesn’t "fit in" but isn't explicitly ostracized as a social pariah—Olive HAS friends, she just doesn't have "best" friends. Even though the story centers on a character who feels like she doesn't know where she belongs, this feeling is universal. Everyone has felt like this at some point in their life, ESPECIALLY in middle school.I love the pacing of this book, particularly the way moments are allowed to breathe. Some of my favorite parts of the book are scenes with minimal dialog where the story is carried forward based on the characters' expressions and the setting. Each environment is illustrated with personality and attention to detail, helping readers become invested in Olive's world and problems. The dynamics between Olive's classmates and the complicated relationship between Olive's pragmatic mother and the more "oddball" Aunt Molly, leave me wanting to know more about these characters. Which is good, because more is on the way!I highly recommend you share "Click" with the young readers in your life.

Do you like comic books / graphic novels? Original, relatable characters? Story lines that are both entertaining, and meaningful? Buy this book. Olive, her family, and her friends are from all across the spectrum of life - this book is a great reminder about how sometimes we all feel like we don't have a place - until we finally discover it with the help of family and friends. The original artwork (and self-created font!) is amazing, and a great addition to any library. Can't wait until her next book releases!

This is a wonderful book with an invaluable lesson for today's children. One of my favorite new tools for a parent or grandparent, hoping to offer positive and retainable development assistance to a elementary school level child.

This book is amazing, has a great story and the drawings are phenomenal however a little short for me since i finished it in 45 minutes. Maybe not something u would want if ur looking for something long to read, but its just my opinion maybe im just a fast reader. Anyway awesome book!

Great story so far. But pages 65-80 are missing, with pages 49-64 repeating instead. Hope I can exchange for a correctly printed copy so my daughter can keep enjoying the story!

I'm a sucker for Christmas stories so I really enjoyed the title story, `Christmas on Bear Mountain'. However what makes Bear Mountain so most famous is that it features the first appearance of Scrooge McDuck who is introduced without fanfare. In fact if I hadn't been told this was Scrooge's first appearance I would never have guessed since he is immediately treated like a known member of the Duck family. In addition to the title story we also get two other great stories, `Donald Duck and the Ghost of the Grotto' and a second Christmas story, `Three Good Little Ducks'. The interesting thing about the two Christmas stories is that there is not a bit of snow on the ground n Duckburg and the ducks are wearing their normal pantsless clothing. In fact I swear in one picture it looks like there is a palm tree outside Donald's house. By the time `A Christmas for Shacktown' was printed five years later Duckburg was covered in snow and the boys wore winter coats and mittens. Maybe 1947 was just an unseasonably warm Christmas.If you're reading this review and you don't know Carl Barks let me tell you he has to be considered one of the top five comic writer/artists of all time with his work on Donald Duck probably considered his finest. His consistency in visuals and storytelling quality is second to none. Barks is the kind of artist that should be studied which is exactly what Fantagraphics does. Each story includes a fascinating analysis including an insider's look at how Barks crafts his comics. It really did increase my respect for the man knowing how thoughtful his efforts were.Volume 5 features the years from May 1947 to January 1948. Despite being the fifth volume printed, chronologically these are the earliest years we've yet to receive. My theory is that Fantagraphics led with the best material to get readers hooked and then continued with the less well regarded stories. Of the five volumes, this one, in my opinion, has the weakest stories. Remember, this is graded on a Carl Barks scale which is well above the average artist but stories like `Adventure Down Under' and `Volcano Valley' just don't compare to other Barks stories I've read. I did learn one thing in this volume. I've always believed that Barks' Duck's live in a separate universe from the rest of the Disney characters but Donald actually mentions Mickey in a brief passing.The books are printed on a very nice, bright stock of paper with the images all cleaned up and the sale price for these hardbound volumes seems very reasonable. In my view this entire series is perfect for both adults and children and I have all five volumes sitting on the bookshelf in my living room.*There is one possible printing error on page 81 that perhaps a Barks superfan can help clarify. Donald is in a box with Daisy performing the old saw the woman (duck) in half trick when he is led to believe the trick saw has been replaced with a real saw. Next page has Daisy holding the door open saying, `So that's the kind of deal you tried to hand me! Good-Bye, Donald Duck - Forever'. Either that was a really weird and abrupt transition or there is a page missing.

I'm a huge Carl Barks fan and have been since I first read his stories as a kid in the early 1960s -- long before I knew his name. Barks took a while, though, to find his stride, and these stories -- originally published in 1947 -- are a mixed bag. The volume reprints four long stories -- "Volcano Valley," "Christmas on Bear Mountain," "The Ghost of the Grotto," and "Adventure Down Under" -- along with eight shorter 10-page stories, and five one-page gag strips.Of the long stories, I would rate only "The Ghost of the Grotto" as an unqualified success. It combines an exotic locale, an historical take, well-executed humor, and surprising developments. Both "Volcano Valley" and "Adventure Down Under" are rather weak. While "Adventure Down Under" has some strengths -- if you can look past the dated depiction of the native Australians -- "Volcano Valley" has little to recommend it. "Christmas on Bear Mountain," famous for introducing Uncle Scrooge -- Barks's greatest invention -- is unfortunately not all that good either. It has a few strong points, but Scrooge as depicted in this story is a long way from where Barks would take him in a few years in stories like "Only a Poor Old Man" or "A Christmas for Shacktown" (both of which are available in volumes Fantagraphics has already published).The 10-pagers are also of uneven quality. Fireman Donald is one of the best short stories Barks ever produced, but a couple of others are clinkers.Fantagraphics does an excellent job with these books. My only quarrel with their presentation is that I wish they were reproducing the covers. Some of Barks's best art was the covers he drew for these books (although the cover to Four Color 178 -- where "Christmas on Bear Mountain" originally appeared -- was not drawn by Barks). So even when Fantagraphics finishes publishing all the volumes in "The Complete Carl Barks Library," some of his work will be missing.I know that the binding on this volume is supposed to be inferior -- apparently, Fantagraphics has admitted as much -- but I have had no problems with my copy, which appears to have been bound as well as the other volumes in this series.In short, I recommend this book, although Barks's best work can be found in later volumes, some of which have already been published because Fantagraphics is not publishing the books in chronological order.

Christmas On Bear Mountain is volume 5 in Carl Barks Library. So this is earliest material so far published. Carl Barks first duck story was in 1942, these stories collected are from 1947 and one from Jan 1948. While only five years in to writing the ducks, Barks might not have quite reached the peak of his form, but still he is a master storyteller.My favorites are of course the title story Bear Mountain which featured the creation of Scrooge McDuck a character who would become just as important as Donald in the legend of Disney.My other favorite is Donald Duck And The Ghost Of The Grotto. It is a 26 page Tour-De-Force which is educational, exciting, fast paced and action packed mystery and adventure still filled with humor. An abandoned ship, a giant octopus and a ghost in a suit of armour are some of the story elements. This is the type of story Barks excelled at and nobody in the history of comics ever did better.This volume is 200 pages of pure magic and Love. Fantagraphics has assembled a masterpiece and the source material has never looked better. The storynotes are a wonderful bonus and treasured as much as the comics.Highly Recommended.

My planner came damaged in that the two center coils are bent away from each other. It doesn't affect the function so I won't send it back - but I'm hoping it's not a sign that this isn't durable.For such a fun/young-looking planner, this one has great features! I'm not one to use stickers, even in all my years of Erin Condren & Lilly Pulitzer planners. (I doubt I'll use the fun features throughout the planner, either.) I love how much space this has to write - the dimensions of this planner are a little larger than I'm used to but it was a good step-up for me. I really need one that folds in half and so many that would otherwise suit my needs just don't. I'm closer to 50 years old than to 40 so I'll feel a little silly taking this to meetings as I volunteer for organizations and take notes, make lists, bring my calendar...but I'll do it anyway since this will keep me on track! Or, maybe I'll embrace the mid-life indulgence.If I could have one change for this planner, it would be to have a notes page (or multiple) for each month! This has 10 pages to write notes in the very back but it's not a tabbed section and the background is dotted or grid so it's not as practical as lined or blank. There are planner printables you can access if you have this planner and some seem cute & usable - but I'm not entirely sure how to get them into the planner pages - maybe there's a punch I can buy for that? (I won't though).The real reason that I bought this planner is to not spend $40-100 this time like I always do for a planner, but still have something that works for me. This seems well-made and sturdy and has the same features as planners that cost far more! Oh, and I love the "Just Getting Started" sentiment! Aren't we all????

Just received this planner and I LOVE it so far. It contains a bunch of cute stickers and seems like so much fun! Such a great price for the contents and I am excited to start planning. The only down fall I can see so far is that the pages are pretty thin and the pens I purchased to use for it sort of bleed through. It seems I will need to use only basic pens, not the heavier marker like fine point pens I had planned. This planner contains way more stickers than the previous Ban.do planner that I purchased last year and it seems to be a comparable, more cost effective product.

Just got this planner and already I’m enjoying it. First it’s in between a large and medium size planner which I really love. It gives you plenty of stickers; some for each season. The artwork is beautiful. The only thing I don’t like is the grid setup on the weekly planner part. I’d prefer a blank block for each day and to make my own grid, if I want but that being said they aren’t terrible just unnecessary for those who prefer to set their own rhythm when it comes to planning their day. I gave this 5 stars because for the price and what you get as well as the quality it’s a great planner.

My 6th grade daughter needed the perfect planner for middle school and this was it! She's able to record all of assignments, sports activities, etc with plenty of space for more. She loves the stickers, beautiful graphics, and the pouch in the front to hold notes and other incidentals. It's made it through the first month plus of school with hardly any wear. Would purchase again!

I LOVE planners, but I hate spending 50-100$. I read reviews and decided to give this planned a try. I LOVE it. It's perfectly laid-out. Has cute text and fun messages throughout. I was concerned about the paper quality. I will say its not the 100$ planner (erin condren or plum paper) quality, but it's not cheap and thin like most off brands. It's something in between. Pens and felt tips don't bleed through. The stickers are fun. I'm more than happy with my purchase.

Bought this planner bc I thought it was super cute and I love all things 90’s. Personally, it’s just too big and bulky (I carry my planner with me). I loved the stickers and tried to order insertable downloads from there website but they never sent me the link. All in all, if you don’t plan on taking it out with you it’s good for a desk calendar.

I heard a radio interview with the author and got captivated by the theme and his research. I am really enjoying the book. It is an easy and well documented narrative of a difficult period in American, and I was surprised how present and strong the Nazi ideology was in the US in the period before WWII. The author is also excellent in waving those facts and menaces with what is going on presently in the US.

Bradley Hart’s Hitler’s American Friends plays fast and loose with facts as he comes to numerous conclusions unsupported by his research. For example, in his Afterword, Hart states that millions of Americans supported pro-German causes before the Second World War. His text, on several occasions, states that membership in pro-German organizations was difficult to determine but likely numbered in the tens-of-thousands – not millions. Hart’s hyper-focus on anti-Semitism is likely responsible for his skewing of the numbers. Moreover, comparisons of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and American talk radio to Nazism are off-putting, off-topic, and historically do not make a meaningful contribution.

I bought this because of the good reviews but never finished reading it. The author comes to conclusions for me, when I prefer to come to my own conclusions. I shouldn't be surrised, the news does this, too.

The history about Hitler.

In 1941, the country was divided. Some people supported Hitler, some wanted to avoid war, and some wanted to support Britain. The opening to Hart’s book details the three perspectives on WWII. I found it fascinating. Being too young to remember the news, I found that there were many things I had missed in the lead up to WWII.Britain assuredly wanted the support of the US and had agents, including those from IM6, operating in the country. What I didn’t realize was how organized the Nazis were in the US. Hart’s chapters discuss the Nazi organizations that were in the US prior to WWII. They include information of the Bund, a primarily German organization; the Silver Legion; The Religious Right, primarily Father Coughlin’s Christian Front; senators who supported Nazi Germany to keep the US out of the war; businessmen who supported the Nazis for profit; students who were sucked into the Nazi propaganda through their universities; America First, which supported Charles Lindberg; and the spies who stole military secrets to support the German regime.The book is easy to read and is supported by copious research. If you’re interested in the pre-WWII era in the US, you will enjoy this book. I found it particularly interesting because I didn’t realize how divided the US was prior to WWII. One tends to think of the divides of one’s own era, but this book suggests that we have always been a people who think for themselves which leads to social divides.I recommend this book. It’s well written; we’ll researched; and will give you a view of America at at another crossroads.I received this book form Net Galley for this review.

This book is composed of seven chapters with each concentrating on a specific group (Amereica First, Politicians, The Bund, etc.). I have some knowledge of Nazi sympathizers in the United States leading up to and during World War II, but as promised by he author there is substantial new material that I was not aware of occuring during this time period. The book is well documented and the author's writing style makes it easy to follow. I appreciate his devoting a single chapter to each group rather than bouncing around between groups which I have run across in the past with other history based books. The author was also able to present the material without moralizing the subject which I also appreciated.I recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the events leading up to and during World War II in the United States.I received a free Kindle copy of Hitler's American Friends by BradleyW. The cover had a photo of a 1937 Bund rally with a crowd of average looking Americans gathered around two very large flags hanging next to each other. One was the U.S. Stars and Strips. The other was the German Nazi flag.I knew there were Americans, including famous ones like Charles Lindbergh, Henry Ford, and Prescott Bush father and grandfather of two U.S. Presidents, who supported Hitler. But I didn’t know much more.The book chapters are organized by the organizations and groups that supported the Nazis. There are three chapters on the major pro-Nazi groups - the Bund, the Silver Legion and the Chief, and the largest and most successful, America First, the name President Trump has adopted for his administration.There is a chapter on the religious right which has a long history of supporting dictators past (e.g., Hitler, Mussolini) and present (e.g., Putin, Bolsonaro). There are also chapters on Senators, Businessmen, Students, and Spies. Each chapter starts in the 1930s and moves to the early 1940s.Don’t ignore the Introduction that summarizes the era and sets the stage for the following chapters. The Afterword reveals what happened to the main characters after the war.It is hard to not recognize the parallels to our current state of affairs. The big difference is that America First was never able to elect a President and there was no Fox News. Nor have we experienced a Pearl Harbor that sent the Nazi sympathizers of that era into hiding.

Overall helpful to an Apple Rookie like me, but tiresome "cute" writing style. It often reads like an "Apple Commercial" and goes overboard with lavish praise. I must admit that the IPAD Pro is an impressive machine but let people make up their own minds. Remove all the fluff and the book will be 2/3 of the present size. I'm used to reading physics books which are well organized like a series of equations but this required rereading many passages to extract the meaning. A little too much work to read for a new guy but it was informative. If you are new to Apple look around for a more direct teaching style.

More than I want to know or can absorb, but I am glad to have as a reference manual.

This is a good book and is easy to find the answers when I need them.

Disappointed, it is not very intuitive. Was hoping for example lessons and exercises. I guess I am just a little dumb.

Beautifully done! My kids gave me an IPad but everyone who tries to show me how it works (they don't come with instructions) can't getdown to my level of understanding, and now its locked up and won't let me in. This book will save my bacon.

It is useful but not essential.

Helpful but can be confusing when given multiple areas for same problem or question. Requires focus.

Book is lacking in detail for anyone who is not already knowledgable on the iPad.

I purchased this book because I listen to Pastor Alistair Begg on podcast. At the closing of one of his messages the guy that speaks afterwards mentioned this book and because I want to love Jesus more, I was interested. I purchased it and I love it. I already knew that as we draw closer to God he will draw closer to us but they way he explains this is wonderful. Study your bible, don't just read it as you would a novel..... He didn't say it like that but that is how I understood it. :)

Nobody loves Jesus the way we should. But Philip Ryken gives us good advice and sound counsel on how to love Jesus. Short chapters with applicable encouragement fill the pages of this book.

His words have opened my eyes to a new level of faith. Highly recommend. One of my take-aways is that our ability to love Jesus comes from God. It's not something that we can stir up in our own power. Only through Him can we love.

Excellent book and explanation of how and why to love Jesus more. Our pastor is inspired to do a sermon series based on this book.

Phil Ryken's newest book has a great goal. He wants his readers to LOVE Jesus more. Ryken sees things realistically. He knows most--if not all--believers struggle with loving Jesus, with loving Him MORE. It is oh-so-easy to love him less--less than at first, less than we should, less than we ought. Ryken sets out to show how readers can, in fact, love Him more.The book focuses on two things: God's love for us, which, is the source of our love for him, and, our love for God, which, spills over into our love for others.I believe the book does its best to be practical and relevant. I am not doubting it is practical and relevant. But it isn't exactly new or surprising information. The things he discusses while remaining relevant are things that the reader most likely already knows. (Things like living an obedient life, not clinging to favorite sins, going to church, loving and forgiving others, reading the Bible, etc.)It is in the "putting into practice" what one already knows that would show actual results. The book is good--great, even--if and only if it challenges readers to change their beliefs and behaviors. I hope the Spirit uses Ryken's message to reach hearts and awaken the conscience. I believe the Spirit can use books and sermons. I believe the Spirit also uses the Word of God itself. This is not a "true" story but it gives some insight into maybe how the story of Jacob's wives started and ended. It was an awesome book, one that I have read at least five times. You need to go into the book though and realize that it is fiction and just one way of looking at the story. This book actually went around our bible study group and everyone enjoyed it, as a great fiction book based off of scripture.

First a critique of the review process. I hate that Amazon insists that I choose one of their descriptive words to "describe the plot of this book." They gave me the choices of "predictable," "some twists," or "full of surprises," none of which are an apt summary of The Red Tent.Many thoughtful reviews have already been posted. I will affirm that it was wonderful to read this story, told from the point of view of the women. In those times, women were treated as chattel and the only power they had was that of producing sons. They claimed that power, and it was fascinating. I also liked the portrayal of the community of women and what they brought to the family economy, I hope that part is "true."I love the historical fiction quality of the book. The alternative perspectives from Biblical literalism is a relief. The alternate perspective on Dinah's "rape" is worthy of contemplation. In today's world, there are "honor killings" that sometimes occur when women have sex outside of marriage, whether it's consensual or rape. We have a modern context for seeing women who don't have self determination, whose marriages are arranged, or consent still only comes with a price. It's not that hard to see the possibility of an alternate reality for Dinah. It certainly makes for a great story. I am fascinated by the tensions and textures created by the encounters with people of differing beliefs, the women practicing the old ways, those who don't, the paganism, those following the God of Abraham, and then the Egyptians. It is interesting to follow how those beliefs color their lives and how they interact with people of differing beliefs. One can also experience that in the reviews here on Amazon!I do not find the story anti-male or anti-Bible. When one recalls that men had all the power, then tragic use of power is on the men. But other aspects of power appear in the encounters between the shepherd and the king, and Dinah amongst the Egyptians, etc. The tensions of religion and culture and social position within the tribe and beyond are part of the story.I've tried to write without spoilers. It's a great book. One can be a person of faith without being insulted by a single syllable in this book. Criticisms from 2000 are interesting, but I think that time is on the side of deep appreciation for The Red Tent.

Being Russian Orthodox (where, at least in our little corner of the world, Bible reading is for the priests and not only not encouraged, but is not a thing at all for the laypeople), I can hardly comment on the differences between this retelling and the original text. What I can say is that this book is an insight, however fictional, into the lives of women at a time when they were but footnotes in the history of men, if mentioned at all. I would recommend The Red Tent to anyone who wants more than read a footnote, or anyone, who, like me, had trouble even starting reading the Bible, specifically for the reason that the stories told are missing half the people. Ignore the controversy and just read it. This book is worth judging for yourself. To me, it was worth reading just for a glimpse of time, even if only imagined, when at least someone didn't see being a woman (childbirth, menstruation, etc.) as being cursed by uncleanliness. There are countless women and girls even today, all over the world, whose futures are maimed and ruined just for this reason. There are people out there who are working hard to change this attitude, and a book like this, a new perspective, can help more than an argument.

This is not a good book for someone who is trying to learn the story of Jacob. I read half and had to stop. At one point in the story, it talks about Jacob telling the story of Abram. However, the author writes that Sarai was a priestess, and that a goddess came upon her and made her with child. This is not at all what the Bible teaches. There are many things in the Bible that you can let your mind wonder about like how the conversation went between Jonathan and David when Saul tries to kill David and how the people of Egypt were probably screaming and crying when God was sending plagues. However, the Bible is very clear on what happened to Abram and Sarai, and it had absolutely nothing to do with a goddess. Also, the Bible clearly states that Dinah was raped not in love. I would just suggest that you be careful when reading this and understand that the Bible does not agree with many of the things written in this book!

This is the second d time I've read this book. Know, I don't reread books. I have recommended this book since the first time I read it, back in my 20's, but now that I'm older, I felt it deserved a second review. I fell in love all over again, but for different reasons. The first time I was in awe that's actually liked it. I loved the celebration ration of a strong female character and heroine. Now, I still love it for the same reasons but in a different way. I love her quiet strength. Her resolve. Her confidence. Her self-awareness. It was a book anew to me. And a celebration of womanhood all over in a more mature way. Still in love and would recommend all over again!!!

I normally love historical novels. I found The Red Tent very informative with regard to the life-styles, and traditions of the time.I did find it a bit long-winded in places and switched to speed-reading whereas I normally like to "savor" the literature that I read.I still enjoyed the book and have recommended it to my book club
