Author discusses and or defines basic technique used in acrylics providing a few tips here and there as well. Very few visuals are provided to clarify or demonstrate technique. Easy to read without a bunch of unnecessary verbiage. Provides a good basic overview for layering to achieve depth and natural looking results. I read this in bed one morning when not feeling too well and it was great for that situation as I didn't feel compelled to run and assemble all order to follow along. After reading, I think the next time one actively paints the principles discussed with will be easily recalled even if subconsciously and will provide some broad direction for success with ones painting. A good read for entry level painters who have 15 minutes to kill while waiting for an appointment.
I'm a beginner, looking to embrace my artistic side. I was having trouble with certain techniques, so my friend referred me to this book. The easy 41 page read sets you off in the right path by outlining basic skills and requirements, before detailing the finer skills one would apply to acrylic painting. It shows you techniques like stippling, where you use the tips of the brush to produce grainy, small spots. You'll pick up quickly, assuming you put in the time necessary. As for the book, it does it's job and presents it's techniques in an accessible, readable manner.

Reading this book I have a good idea about what acrylic painting is and how I can try my hand at it as usual. There are also few chapters including basic step-by-step guide to use acrylic paints in still life painting, portraits and landscapes that will give you an idea on how to approach these different subjects to get the best results with acrylics. You can choose the one best style fit for yourself from various techniques described here.
If you are looking to fine tune your painting skills you need to read this book! Although I already had a fair idea of some of the things in this book due to my landscape drawing background, it really did serve as a great refresher for many of the things I’ve overlooked over the years. Very well written and the author did a great job to really explain the subtle points that will make a difference to your artworks.
As the title suggests, this is a crash course covering just the basics of three types of paintings...still life, landscapes and portraits. It provides concepts of basic procedures and that is all. Would definitely benefit from more illustrations because it is rather difficult to understand what the author means sometimes. There are no specific exercises , or detailed methods to be utilized. I had trouble understanding some of his suggestions, especially those tips about using household paint. Just didn't understand what the author intends. There are better , more detailed books with tutorials out there. However, for just the basic broad concepts, some may find this useful.
This book is a great starting place for newbies, like me, who are just starting to get into the word of acrylic painting. If you are willing to put in the effort than this book is a great resource on your journey to mastering acrylic painting.This book goes over a variety of techniques that are useful when you are painting different scenes. And it provided me with guidance on how to improve my technique.If you are looking for a good starting point. I would recommend here.
